PERMACULTURE COURSES AT LA MOHEA

WE REGRET OUR PERMACULTURE COURSES
HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Permaculture involves working with natural processes instead of against them, the aim being to create sustainable human environments. It combines traditional and modern methods in the design of systems that improve the productive capacity of the natural landscape without self-destructing, being both ecologically sound and economically viable. Once the system is functioning, beneficial interactions between different elements (plants and animal, man and micro-organisms) are maximised, and input of energy and effort is minimised, as is output of waste.

The Permaculture Design Course is the standard internacional course recognised by Permaculture Institutes worldwide, which opens you to a new positive world of permaculture.The course helps participants to develop the skills and abilities they need to design sustainable sistems. The aim of the course is not only to impart a large amount of vital information, but also to encourage participants to embark on a personal action learning program focussed on the subjects that are most important for them.

The 72 hours of participative classes include practical work and theory (50:50), with a team design exercise on a real farm. Equally important is the opportunity to spend a fortnight living, talking and thinking permaculture, together with other enthusiasts.

Typical subject areas covered in the 72 hour Design Course include:

  • Principles of design;

  • Observation of the landscape
    as a fundamental design tool;

  • Soil fertility and regeneration;

  • Dryland gardening;

  • Use of trees in drylands,
    agroforestry, forest gardens;

  • Water capture and recycling;

  • Livestock in integrated systems;

  • Bioconstruction, use of local materials;

  • Design methods, surveying,
    practical design exercises;

  • Community living;
