Visitors to La Mohea can enjoy the superb natural surroundings while contributing to the economic viability of the area by coming to the valley on a working holiday. A mixture of learning by active participation and free time.
Gain hands-on experience of sustainable agriculture in the flesh!

We offer you the opportunities for exploring the area and relaxing, learning new skills and sharing an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. You can gain experience in organic gardening, forest management, tree care and propagation, biodynamic techniques, permaculture design, bread-baking and making fruit and vegetable conserves. We'll take you to visit the neighbouring farms and swim nearby in our favourite plunge pool below a waterfall. >>>

You join in the daily farm tasks 3 days a week, and spend your time as you please for the other 4 days, for a weekly charge of 25,000 ptas (£100) for full board and lodging.

Accommodation is in double or single rooms, or those who wish to can camp in our forest. Facilities are basic, with an open-air bathroom and composting toilet. Food is mostly vegetarian, and we can cater for vegans. Most of our fruit and vegetables are organically grown on our farm, we have our own free-range eggs, and we eat locally-produced food in season.

Please see our page How to Visit Finca La Mohea for information on working holidays,
and for an Application form for booking your stay with us.

"Staying at La Mohea made me realise what's important for me in life - eating good food, living a natural life and sharing good company" - Sue Torlach, Australian visitor.

If you have a month or more to spare you can apply to join our volunteer programme, working on the farm and gaining hands-on experience, and in exchange you'll be accommodated and well fed. Although working in the country can be physically tiring, it is very rewarding, and you'll have some spare time too.

We have a few places available for long-term working volunteers (WWOOFers). Volunteers are involved in all the daily tasks of running the farm and in exchange for your help we provide you with food and accommodation, and teach you about the theory and practice of sustainable agriculture.

Volunteers generally stay for a period of one month, working around 6-7 hours a day, Monday to Saturday. Our daily timetable is flexible, and is based around jobs to be completed rather than hours to be worked. As volunteers get the feel of the place they can take more responsibility for specific jobs and become involved in the day-to-day planning of jobs to be done. The work can be physically demanding, and varies seasonally: garden work mostly early spring - late autumn; harvesting late summer - early winter; fruit tree care early winter - early spring; forest management autumn - early spring. Volunteers also help with the day-to-day domestic chores, such as collecting firewood, general cleanliness, and helping prepare meals.

Accommodation is in single or double rooms in converted stables, or a dormitory in the farmhouse, depending on available space. Facilities are basic, but slowly improving!: outdoor compost toilet, outdoor bathroom, with solar hot water from April - October and water heated on the fire in wintertime. Meals are eaten communally and are vegetarian, though we can also cater for vegans.

Learning is gained though hands-on experience. Our particular interests are tree care and propagation, sustainable forest management, agroforestry and permaculture gardening, and we can teach you about any of these and more general techniques of sustainable agriculture.
